Portia Lee James DeGeneres, known professionally by her pseudonym Portia de Rossi, is a well-known model from the United States acting, actress and philanthropist. She legally changed her surname aged 15 and chose the name she loved "Portia" after the Shakespearean character in the play 'The Merchant of Venice.' Portia states that she believes it is the bravest thing that she's done. It was her struggle with sexuality spurred her to change names. Portia made her debut in the film industry with a romantic comedy drama titled 'Sirens' where she appeared alongside Hugh Grant. Portia has starred in many American television movies, which include 'Too Something', 'Nick Freno's Licensed Teacher', Arrested Development", and Better Off Ted.
